Fiction in a Flash - Writer’s Agony

Category: Fiction in a Flash. Posted by Gemini at 3:29 pm.

The silence was deafin….

“No, no no,” she savagely scratched out the cliché and tried again.

The office was quiet enough you could hear a mouse sneeze.? The rattle-tap of keyboards the only noise in the dimly lit building, its few occupants watching time march slowly away, anticipating the long weekend.

“Much better,” she clicked the save button only to howl in despair as the program crashed, her work gone.

CJ Daines #3 (Past)

Category: Character Challenge. Posted by Gemini at 2:58 pm.

To put himself through school, CJ started to intern at Red Mountain Games, working as a play tester on one of the new adventure settings. Less then half the year later the job and he was co-writing adventures under a pseudonym, taking great pains to not run these same modules with his group at home.? Using some of what he was learning in school, CJ helped RMG begin an intense advertising campaign and even started a new product line of video adventure.

Upon graduation with a degree in film editing and production CJ could have gone to work for anyone but instead interned with the school he’d graduated from, re-working their whole advertisement campaign.? His work was seen by Capital Tours and picked up only six months after graduation.? President Davis, impressed with CJ’s work with Capital Tours’ video on the museums, was able to get him into the Capital and the White House to shoot exclusive footage for the tourism company with private access to the presidential bedroom and Oval Office, as well as the senate floor.? From his short film, White House tours have increased ten percent in the two years it has been in circulation, despite the general disgust people have with the nation’s current administration.

CJ Daines #2 Personality

Category: Character Challenge. Posted by Gemini at 1:24 pm.

CJ is the kind of person who others expect to be the silent type. Instead he voices his opinions on everything from movies to politics. He is quick to laugh and share a joke, but careful not to offend the audience.

He is hard working and never far from his desk for long periods of time. Co-workers accuse him of overworking as he evens spends weekend hours in the office, studiously attending to his deadlines. An award winning editor for his audio-visual work with the tourism board he doesn’t let the acclaim go to his head and has often turned down higher paying employment that would take him from Capital Tours and shows no real ambition to leave the company or his home.

CJ is well liked by his co-workers, always willing to lend a hand when possible. His open mindedness, free flowing ability to talk and wild parties have people believing he’s a man of no secrets. His gaming group often begs him to lead the bi-weekly adventures due to his imaginative thinking and creative mind.

Ever popular he proves that geekiness isn’t a social disability.

Character Challenge - CJ Daines #1 (Name and Description)

Category: Character Challenge. Posted by Gemini at 11:27 am.

Edge’s Challenge to me: “A male corporate wageslave with a dangerous secret.”

Name: Cristian Jansen Daines
AKA: CJ Daines

Eyes: Green
Hair: Sandy Blond in a shaggy cut, often falling in his eyes
Age: 28

Known to his friends as CJ, Cristian gives new meaning to the phrase ninety-eight pound weakling. At six foot three inches he appears to be a scrawny, malnourished geek whose shaggy hair is often shading his eyes and scratching against his glasses. His ghostly complexion screams of hours spent away from sunlight and leads many to think he was the typical Goth while in college.

The scrawny appearance is not from lack of exercise however, the amount of weight he carries is all in muscle, but he tends to try and hide this fact by wearing loose fitting clothing. This usually comprises of jeans and anime or gaming related tee-shirts with the occasional long sleeved button up and suit pants when the occasion calls for it.

There appear to be no identifying marks, at least none he’s let anyone see. Most of his co-workers only comment on his remarkable green eyes; when they can actually see them that is.

Challenge, Character 1, Rapier

Category: Character Challenge. Posted by Gemini at 3:24 pm.

Ok, so I cheated, shoot me. Within this document you’ll find all five categories for the character of Rapier as written by Detective Robert J. Frost. Hmm… budding story idea, but not sure where it will go. But she kind of popped up in my head.

Rapier

Name: Heh, right. Names have power ya know. Just call me Rapier. And don’t forget it either.
Age: Not likely.
Gender: Give ya one guess.
Height: 5’4”
Weight: Cheeky bastard ain’t ya?

Description:
…The above is from a direct transcription of Rapier’s only capture. The shortish woman has often been described as sprightly and unable to stand still. Her physical appearance tends to change with each sighting, from “leggy and blond with stunning green eyes” to “rather frumpy with dirty brown hair and blue eyes,” and at the time of capture she was sporting a long braid of blue black hair, deeply tanned complexion and eyes so dark no one could say if they were brown or black. She wore ripped blue jeans with a white tank under a brown bomber jacket. Removed of the bomber jacket she had a small tribal tattoo upon her left shoulder blade.
… Subject’s real name is unknown, only giving us the name Rapier.

Personality:
…Rapier is armed with a wit as sharp as her chosen moniker. She is rumored to be speculative and thoughtful before choosing to unleash her tongue upon an unsuspecting victim lured close by her beauty. She is known to be a tease and to enjoy a good hunt, as predator or prey. Known to be a loner that can adapt a personality to go with each disguise she uses. She is known as what we call a Personality Crisis, simply meaning we believe her to be uncertain, unknowing or unwilling to admit who she really is.

Known Foes:
Myself for one; I’ve been tailing Rapier for thirteen years now and might be one of the few people she’s let see through more than one of her disguises. But, I’m still unsure what side she’s on. She’s caused me more trouble than she’s worth, or so the department seems to think. She’s my hot case, and I intend to bring her in, before someone like Black takes her down.
Marcus Black considered one of the higher ups in the corporate world, but known to be an A-list drug marketer. There are records of him and Rapier being connected in multiple ways, from business to bed and everything in between. For the last six months he’s taking great pain to pay people for any clue to her whereabouts. Reasons are unknown.
Herself: what is she running from anyway? And why?

Current:
…Currently it’s unknown if she’s working for or against Black. She’s done black market work for him in the past, obtaining gods only know what that has increased his fortune leaps and bounds since meeting her. However, about six months ago, one of his top ranking sellers was delivered to our door, bound and gagged with a satchel of Black’s best under his knees. She’s since vanished.
…In her time with Black she also served as his bounty hunter. People who owed him money, or more, were either taken to him or went missing in a span of days after the department was called for assistance from fearful operatives under Black. Seemed it became rumored that escaping Rapier was next to impossible.

Misc:
…At time of arrest she had on her a set of keys for transportation and current residence, cash clip carrying over a grand in hundred dollar bills, address of unknown residence, and a MP3 player.
…Released on bail hours after her arrest, paid for by an unknown subject who came in with cash after Rapier got her phone call. Bail had been set at seventy-five grand due to known crimes committed under Black’s hand.
…Choice of transportation at time of arrest was a red and black motorcycle with plate Kam Ka Z.
…Current whereabouts unknown.

Challenge Introduction

Category: Character Challenge. Posted by Gemini at 12:41 pm.

Gemini and I have been discussing a creative challenge. Since we both do a lot of role-playing and writing, we’re always having to come up with new characters that we can use. Sometimes this isn’t the easiest of things to do. We got together and discussed the various things that an author or role-player needs to know about their characters.

Over the next 30 days, Gemini and I will create 5 characters. Each character will be created over a 6 day period, with a specific part of the character being developed each day. You can see our progress over the next 30 days on our personal creative blogs at Shadows Edge and FatCat Compendium.

Here are the areas we’ll be tackling for each character:

  • Physical Description and name
  • Personality
  • Past
  • Enemy/Protagonist/Opposition
  • Current circumstances/situation
  • Miscellaneous - this is for information that is important but doesn’t fit anywhere else.

The first character will be of our own choice. We will post a copy of this post in our blogs and title each of the challenge posts in the following format - “Character Challenge: Character name - #”

Feel free to join us! If you do, sign in and post a link to where your character is posted.
